Newstoday Jakarta -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the cooking oil mafia.

"Yesterday, the Attorney General's Office has named four suspects in the cooking oil affair and I ask that they be thoroughly investigated so that we can understand who is playing this game," said the President in a press statement, at Bangkal Baru Market, Sumenep Regency, East Java, Wednesday. 20/04/2022).

Even though the government has distributed BLT Cooking Oil, the President considers that currently cooking oil is still a problem in the community.

He also hopes that cooking oil prices can return to near normal prices.

“We want the price to be closer to normal. So the price is high, why? Prices outside, international prices are very high, so the tendency for producers to want to export is because the prices are high outside, he said.

The government itself has made various efforts to overcome this cooking oil problem, including through various policies such as setting the highest retail price (HET) for bulk cooking oil and subsidies to producers. However, the President sees that the policy has not been effective in recent weeks.

“In the market, I see that there is a lot of bulk oil that is not in accordance with the HET that we have set. It means, there is a game," he said.
